Paul Rapson I have lived in the New Forest in England all of his life, so the sea and the forest have alway been on the doorstep. I guess these have always have been the source for inspiration, especially the patterns that occur in nature. I have always created (merry hell! no just kidding!) created things, both functional and decorative. I was not academically brilliant!! at school, it was not the happiest time for me, but I did win the annual hobbies prize several years running and I enjoyed the sport and hands-on subjects, art, woodwork etc. I picked up a camera for the very first time when I was 14, I then proceeded to teach myself the basics and discover the magic of the darkroom. After a couple of summer holiday photo jobs with a local marine/commercial photographer I went to work in the photographic department of a Southampton advertising agency, spending two years of my career in the dark! The final year was spent as the company photographer before leaving in 1979 to set up my own sucsessful industrial photographic business from my parent’s home.
Wooden Cubes I uses a huge number of different techniques including precision hand and machine carving, routing, turning and sanding before finishing with usually an oil or lacquer that brings out the rich colour and grain of the natural wood. I am constantly experimenting, combinining different technologies and techniques to achieve a new original look or use.

2D & 3D Art It is the individual reactions of people to my images that inspire me to continue expanding my own artwork and sculpture ideas. Giving visual pleasure, forcing others to ‘take another look’, letting their mind question what their eyes see in a totally different way to their neighbour. The work is best described as “different”; Abstract ith a strong leaning towards graphics, often inspired by naturally occurring phenomena and people’s unrelated comments and concepts. The viewer can see many different images within the initial impression. A range of photographic techniques, conventional and “off the wall” are employed. Some of the creative ideas have undergone much research and development, through experimentation in the studio, before a final series is shot. My recent venture into sculpture has opened up “a very interesting can of worms!! I am really enjoying discovering 3D creativity.
