Hardwoods are mainly deciduous, most softwood trees are conifers.
Yew is technically a softwood but is physically harder than many
species classified as hardwood. Conversely balsa is technically a
hardwood but as we all know is physically very soft!

Great Pitted Post
The solid Oak sculpture is made from thoroughly dried
flotsam, found locally on a Hampshire beach. Originally it
was a fence post or a river navigation mark post made from
mature English Oak. It is mounted on a hard sandstone
base and makes a great conversation piece. Including the
base the overall height is 390mm (15.4”)
